CASSAT, Kenneth Lyle -- Kenneth Lyle CASSAT, 83, of Clarinda, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at home.

A celebration of life service was at 1 p.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Clarinda, with the Rev. Robert Keefer officiating. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Clarinda Lied Library Foundation or to the Clarinda Foundation.

Arrangements are in the care of Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda.

Mr. CASSAT was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Clarinda, the son of Lyle and Christel RICHARDSON CASSAT. He married Patricia WICKLIFF Aug. 8, 1948, in Fairview.

Mr. CASSAT grew up in Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High school. He then continued his education at Parsons College and University of Iowa School of Law. He was owner and president of Richardson Lumber Company in Clarinda. He also served as assistant Page County attorney.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. CASSAT was the president and a board member of the Iowa Retail Lumber Association. He was a 50-year member of the Iowa Bar Association. He also was a past president of the Clarinda Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Rotary Club, Paul Harris Fellow, Clarinda Foundation, Nodaway Valley Historical Society, Glenn Miller Birthplace Society, Clarinda Library Board, Clarinda Toastmasters and Lion's Club. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed golfing and belonged to the municipal band and a men's chorus. He was a high school athletic official and a fan of the Packers, Cubs and Hawkeyes.

Survivors include his wife; four children, James CASSAT and wife June of Washington, Mo., Jeffrey CASSAT and wife Becky of Maple Grove, Minn., Jamie FASSNACHT and husband Daniel of Parkville, Mo., and Jonathon CASSAT and wife Susan of Overland Park, Kan.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Ellen LOVETT of Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy CASSAT; and one grandson.
