Obit. Lewis Hyitt SHIERY, born Columbus, Ohio, July 20, 1845, died at his home in Richland May 29, 1918. Of Quaker ancestry, attended public school in Columbus and the Friends college of same city... Coming west, he was for a number of years a resident of Richland and Ioka. Dec. 20, 1866, married Miss M. M. GOODMAN of Ioka. He took his family to Towner, N.Dak., where they resided 12 years, going from there to Oyens, Canada, where he held extensive land interests. Returned to Iowa in Dec., 1917, and located in Packwood. Forty years a member of the Masonic fraternity. Served 3½ years in Civil War. Episcopal Church in Towner, N.D., later at M.E. Church in Packwood. Leaves devoted wife and six children, two sons: Z.W. & C.M. SHIERY, and one daughter, Mrs. A. B. HEATH of Oyens, Canada, and Mrs. J. D. COX, Mrs. R. M. SMITH and Mrs. Libbie LOCKHART of Packwood. Funeral held Friday p.m. May 31. The old soldiers of Packwood and members of the Masonic order attended in a body. Interment in Packwood Cemetery conducted by the Masons.....
