THOMAS, Richard Lee 'Dick' -- Richard Lee "Dick" THOMAS, 73, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008.

A memorial service is planned for spring 2009. His body has been cremated.

Memorials may be made to emphysema research. Cards and memorials may be sent to 1926 Walnut Ave., Lockridge 52635.

Mr. THOMAS was born Aug. 31, 1935, in Fairfield, the son of Clarence and Madeline SHANSTROM THOMAS.

Mr. THOMAS attended Fairfield schools and Parsons College. He graduated from auctioneer school in 1978. He married Carolyn DOWNING in 1956, and they divorced. He married Jesse BOWMAN in September 1977. She died in February 1979.

Mr. THOMAS was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean conflict.

Mr. THOMAS was employed in heating and plumbing with Harry Wright. He worked for Iowa Malleable, Vega Industries from 1973-1978, and Louden, retiring in 1996.

He was a past president of Eagles Club No. 1927 in Fairfield and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2271.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping and bowling.

Survivors include four children, Jeff THOMAS and wife Teresa of Lockridge and Terry THOMAS, Rhonda NEELY and husband Tom and Jackie POARCH and husband Gary, all of California; one stepdaughter, Leslie BOWMAN; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight siblings, Ron THOMAS of Webster, Texas, Harold LANE of Fairfield, Jim LANE of Fairfield, Dan LANE of Brighton, Karen GORDON of Washington, Iowa, Patty LATHROP of Fairfield, Kathy KLETT of Fairfield and Connie GARDNER of Wales, Wis.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, James T. LANE; and two sisters, Peggy LANE and Marie OWENS.

THOMAS, Richard Lee 'Dick' -- Richard Lee "Dick" THOMAS, 73, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2008.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating. Inurnment, with military rites, will follow the service in Iowaville Cemetery near Selma.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
