MARTIN, Joanna Ruth -- Joanna Ruth MARTIN, 79, of rural Brighton, died at 3:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Washington Care Center in Washington, Iowa.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the Rev. Sallie Graves officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Richland.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established for the Brighton Voluteer First Responders.

Mrs. MARTIN was born Sept. 1, 1929, north of Richland, the daughter of Lewis and Margaret SPANIER KREWSON. She married Robert MARTIN Sept. 11, 1948, in Washington, Iowa.

Mrs. MARTIN grew up in Richland and attended Richland High School. She was a homemaker, raised sheep and cleaned houses.

She was a member of the Lake Darling Saddle Club for many years.

Survivors include her husband, three children, Dan MARTIN and wife Christine of Glendale, Calif., Elaine MARTIN of Reno, Nev., and Richard MARTIN and wife Marilyn of Brighton; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Leo KREWSON of Albany, Ore.; and two sisters, Betty HOLDER of Tacoma, Wash., and Joyce PARSONS of Fairfield.

Her parents; one infant son, Michael; and one brother, Keith, preceded her in death.
