HOLLANDER, Gladys Irene -- Gladys Irene HOLLANDER, 82, of Fairfield, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church ELCA in Fairfield, with the Rev. Marvin Robeck officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.

Mrs. HOLLANDER was born May 20, 1926, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Orval R. and Elsie May ALTER VanWINKLE. She married Clair Virgil HOLLANDER Sept. 4, 1947, at Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville.

Mrs. HOLLANDER taught rural school for two years in Germanville. She was employed as a cook for six years at Parkview Care Center and for 17 years at Jefferson County Hospital.

Mrs. HOLLANDER volunteered at the Bargain Box and with the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fairfield and Esther Club Women's Bible Group.

She enjoyed traveling with the First National Bank Travel Club.

Survivors include four children, Ronald E. HOLLANDER and wife Deb of Burlington, Penny S. BOATRIGHT and husband Joel of Fairfield, Bruce A. HOLLANDER and wife Nikki of Fairfield and Brian L. HOLLANDER and wife Julie of Fairfield; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Leroy VanWINKLE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Nancy HOLLANDER; and one sister, Betty VanWINKLE HERMAN.
