FOSS, Gene R. -- Gene R. FOSS, 83, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Winslow House Care Center in Marion.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Burial will be in Waterloo Cemetery.
Visitation will be form 9-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or Allen Hospital Foundation.

Mr. FOSS was born Feb. 13, 1925, in La Porte City, the son of Shelby and Iva Jean RICHARDS FOSS. He married Eleanor Ann WHITE May 29, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo. She died Dec. 4, 2005.
Mr. FOSS earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1949. He was a chemist at Rath Packing Co. for 36 years, then Land O' Lakes for six years, retiring in 1991.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Allen Hospital Auxiliary and the AMVETS and was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church. He served as a board memeber of Allen Memorial Hospital and Rath Credit Union.
Mr. FOSS enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include two sons, Craig R. and wife Barb of Fairfield and Kim M. and wife Cindy of Marion; one daughter, Julie J. FOSS of Nashville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet BROWN and Dorothy REES; and three brothers, Shelby Jr., Robert and Kenneth.
