ALLEN, Bill -- Bill ALLEN, 61, of Knoxville, formerly of Richland, died Monday evening, Nov. 10, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

ALLEN, Bill -- Bill ALLEN, 61, of Altoona, died from complications of cancer Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 23 in the Jefferson County Hospital Living Care Center community room, with the Rev. Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 1:30-3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the hospital.

Memorials to Richland United Methodist Church or Richland Public Library may be left at Gould Funeral Home in Rochland or may be mailed to the family at 10460 Juan Calle, Clive 50325.

Mr. ALLEN was born Feb. 23, 1947, in Washington, the son of Rob and Monna ALLEN. He married Pat DAY, and they later divorced.

Mr. ALLEN was raised in Richland and graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1965. He attended Northeast Missouri State University, now known as Truman State, in Kirksville, Mo. He was first employed at KMCD in Fairfield and later at KIRX in Kirksville, Mo. He then moved to KHAS in Hastings, Neb., and to KIOA in Des Moines, where he frequently performed remote broadcasts and served as a disc jockey at many dance functions at schools throughout central Iowa. His career then took him to rock radio stations in South Dakota and North Dakota. He returned to Iowa several years later and worked at various jobs. Mr. ALLEN developed health issues during the past several years, including three separate bouts with cancer.

Mr. ALLEN was a longtime member of Richland United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Donya ALLEN of Altoona; his mother of Fairfield; one brother, Steve ALLEN of Clive; and a special friend, Willa VOS of Barnes City.

His father preceded him in death.
