LEE, Howard Mundell -- Howard Mundell LEE, 94, of Fairfield, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

A funeral was held this morning at First Christian Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Suzanne Schwan officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.

A memorial has been established.

Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mr. LEE was born April 2, 1914, in Evans, the son of Harley McOeod and Ethel Alta MUNDELL LEE. He married Bette Joerine BURKHEIMER Oct. 17, 1937, in Mount Pleasant. She died Oct. 1, 1997.

Mr. LEE attended Iowa Wesleyan College. He and his wife owned and operated a Maid-Rite sandwich shop in Fairfield in the late 1930s and early 1940s. They moved to Chicago, where Mr. LEE served as executive in charge of sales and distribution and assistant treasurer and director of corporate real estate at Kraft Foods. He was the chief executive officer of Phenix Corporation.

Mr. LEE helped found the Chicago Executive Club.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a flight instructor and troop transport pilot.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen MERCIER and husband Greg of Geneva, Ill.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one infant child; his parents; and one sister, Halcyon GAWTHROP.
