Lawrence T. BROWN

Lawrence T. BROWN, 85, of rural Batavia, died Monday morning, Nov. 3, 2008, at home.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Richland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kim Gates officiating. Burial will be in Halferty Cemetery west of Richland.

Visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Gould Funeral Home in Richland, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

A memorial to Richland United Methodist Church has been established. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 1174 Brookville Road, Batavia 52533.

Mr. BROWN was born April 14, 1923, near Ollie, the son of Willard and Alice MICHENER BROWN. He married Helen DICKINSON May 27, 1951, in Richland. She died Feb. 16, 1985. He married Hazel HILL CRUIKSHANK Oct. 5, 1985, in Bloomfield.

Mr. BROWN grew up near Ollie and graduated from Ollie High School in 1941. He farmed in Keokuk County until 1957, when his family moved to a farm near Abingdon.

Mr. BROWN served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and was combat wounded in Germany.

Mr. BROWN was a member of Richland United Methodist Church, Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the National Rifle Association. He was a life member of American Legion Post No. 504.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Kelda BROWN of Rockville, Md.; one stepdaughter, Nancy CLANCY and husband Brent of Bloomfield; two grandsons; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Linnie HARVEY.
