Arlo and Richard KREISS, father and son, lose their lives

KREISS, Arlo R. -- Arlo R. KREISS, 67, of Keosauqua died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, in a multiple vehicle accident, in which his son Richard also lost his life, south of Arbela, Mo.

A joint funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Memorial Center, Highway 1 North, Keosauqua, with the Rev. Elsa Lowry and the Rev. ellis andrews (lower case sic) officiating. Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery southeast of Keosauqua.

Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will be present from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Gifts to a memorial to be designated by the family may be left at the funeral home or Roberts center or may be mailed to the family at PO Box 1, Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. KREISS was born Jan. 30, 1941, in Keosauqua, the son of Joe and Edith WINN KREISS. He married Ellen L. BREWER May 14, 1961, at Farmington United Methodist Church.

Mr. KREISS graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1959. He managed Burdman Auto Parts and operated a welding shop in Keosauqua. He was most recently an over-the-road truck driver for Troutman Trucking LLC of Bonaparte.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Teresa McINTOSH and husband Kevin of Keosauqua; one daughter-in-law, Tracey KREISS of Keosauqua; four grandsons; one brothers (sic), Gary KREISS of Fairfield; and three sisters, Lana BOUGHNER of Kellogg and Linda BRILL and JoAnn WILEY, both of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.

Mr. KREISS was born Nov. 16, 1963, in Keosauqua, the son of Arlo R. and Ellen BREWER KREISS. He married Tracey K. THRASHER June 27, 1987, in Keosauqua United Methodist Church.

Mr. KREISS graduated from Van Buren High School in 1982. He worked at Phillips Pallets and M.J.D. Sales and Service, both in Keosauqua; Arnold Motor Parts and B & C Sales and Service, both in Fairfield; and Barker Ltd. in Keosauqua the past two years. He also made log signs in a shop at his home.

Mr. KREISS was a board member of Riverview Club, Keosauqua.

He enjoyed golfing and hunting. He was a Pittsburg Steelers fan.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tyson and Colton; his mother; and one sister, Theresa McINTOSH of Keosauqua.

Two Keosauqua men killed in Missouri crash
* A funeral is set for Richard KREISS and his father Arlo

ARBELA, Mo. (AP) -- Two Keosauqua residents, Richard D. KREISS and his father, Arlo KREISS, are dead following a three-vehicle accident Saturday morning in northeast Missouri.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the accident occurred when a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Norman H. Zimmerman of Arbela ran a stop sign at U.S. 136 near Arbela and struck a vehicle driven by 77-year-old Marvin O. Boyer of Carthage, Ill. Zimmerman's vehicle then hit a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Richard KREISS.

Authorities pronounced KRIESS and his passenger, 67-year-old Arlo KREISS, dead at the scene.

Zimmerman and Boyer were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Patrol officials said they have cited Zimmerman, and other charges are pending.

A joint funeral service for Richard and Arlo KREISS is planned for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Memorial Center in Keosauqua, with burial in Center Chapel Cemetery southeast of Keosauqua.
