SHERMAN, Irene Ellen -- Irene Ellen SHERMAN 86, formally (sic) of Mason City, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at the Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield, IA.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 10, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th Street S.E. with Reverend Richard SHERMAN and Reverend Craig E. Steimel concelebrating. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Irene Ellen SHERMAN Memorial Fund in care of Fr. Rick Sherman, St. Pius X Catholic Church, Box 357 Moab, UT 84532.

Irene Ellen SHERMAN was born April 12, 1922, in Algona, the daughter of Louis & Sylvia (RAHM) GERMANN. She graduated from high school in Algona. Irene attended beauty school in Des Moines where she worked up until she was united in marriage to Thomas H. SHERMAN at the St. Ambrose Cathedral, Des Moines in 1946. They moved to Mason City in 1947, where they were self employed and raised their family.

Irene was a devout Catholic. She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and had immense appreciation for family. She was a beautiful seamstress and was well known for her cooking and baking. Irene received great enjoyment from nature, gardening, canning and picnics.

Irene was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, served on Parish Council, women's circle, helped in coordination of CCD program. She was a beautician before married and proudly retained her license for many years to follow.

Survivors include her children, Connie (John) FARMER, Omaha, NE, Deanna (Joe) KIENAST, Dallas, TX, Father Rick SHERMAN, St. Pius X, Moab, UT, Mary Rose SHILL, Anchorage, AK, June Adel (Greg) LOWENBERG, Fairfield, IA; Grandchildren, John Sherman FARMER, Samuel Sherman KAUFMAN, Christopher Thomas SHILL, Tyler Joseph SHILL, Kyla Renee LOWENBERG, Davis Michael LOWENBERG; Great-Grandchildren, Peyton FARMER, Maya FARMER and Ethan KAUFMAN; sister, Rosanna (Dennis) WEBER, Whittemore and sister-in-law, Anita "Bonnie" GERMANN, Ames, along with nieces nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Thomas, her son Ron, siblings, Joanne MULLER and Duwayne "Jug" GERMANN.
