POGGENPOHL, Janet KURTZ -- Janet KURTZ POGGENPOHL, 75, of West Warwick, R.I., died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at home.

Burial will be in Estes Park, Colo.

Memorials may be made to Living Bank, PO Box 6725, Houston, TX 77265.

Mrs. POGGENPOHL was born in Fairfield, the daughter of Jerome and Myrtle KURTZ. She married Charles L. POGGENPOHL, and they later divorced.

Mrs. POGGENPOHL lived in Iowa City and Solon for the majority of her 30-year marriage. She attended University of Iowa and in 1953, began her career at Northwestern Bell. She retired from AT&T in 1986. After her retirement, she received a certificate in hotel/motel management from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 1992. She then started her own residential and commercial janitorial company in Montrose, Colo., where she conducted business for several years before fully retiring to Maine. She settled in Rhode Island in 2002.

Mrs. POGGENPOHL was a member of Communications Workers of America and Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include four children, Pamela POGGENPOHL of Jupiter, Fla., Charles POGGENPOHL of Florida, Linda POGGENPOHL and husband Michael SHOULBERG of West Warwick, R.I. and Trent POGGENPOHL and wife Farah of Lincoln, Calif.; one sister, Susan BAKER of Brighton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
