HUNTER, Twila C. -- Twila C. HUNTER, 88, formerly of Brighton, died late Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

HUNTER, Twila C. -- Twila C. HUNTER, 88, formerly of Brighton, died at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at McCreedy Home in Washington.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brighton United Church in Brighton, with the Rev. Sallie Graves officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.

Open visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton. Family visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society, McCreedy Home, Hospice of Washington County and Brighton United Church.

Mrs. HUNTER was born March 20, 1920, southeast of Brighton, the daughter of Andrew Lee and Edith M. ESSLEY STACY. She married Lawrence E. HUNTER Dec. 24, 1939, in Des Moines. He died Aug. 11, 1995.

Mrs. HUNTER grew up in Brighton, graduated from Brighton High School in 1937 and studied nursing in Iowa City. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. HUNTER was a member of Brighton United Church, Mary Circle, Rural Letter Carriers' Association Auxiliary, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Daughters of the Nile Eucharist Temple. She was a 50-year member of both TTT and Order of the Eastern Star. She also was an American Legion Auxiliary member for 65 years, holding both local and regional offices. She was a long-time member of the Hillcrest Cemetery Association in Brighton.

Mrs. HUNTER's sewing projects were donated to the veterans hospital and shriners' hospital for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy GENKINGER and husband Ron of Washington, Iowa, and Kris ADAM of Williamstown, Mo.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Lawrence Dean HUNTER; one sister, Patricia HOWARD; and one infant brother.
