WHITAKER, Doris Ruth -- Doris Ruth WHITAKER, 85, of rural Hillsboro, died at 10:25 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua after a lengthy illness.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hillsboro Baptist Church, with the Rev. Duane LaCock officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will be present from 4-5 p.m. and 6:30-8 p.m.
Memorials to Hillsboro Baptist Church or Van Buren County Hospital may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 16021 Route W-46, Hillsboro 52630.
Mrs. WHITAKER was born July 10, 1923, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Alvah W. and Floy HELTERBRAN CLARK. She married William D. WHITAKER Aug. 22, 1954, at Hillsboro Baptist Church.
Mrs. WHITAKER graduated from Hillsboro High School and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. She did graduate work at University of Iowa in Iowa City and Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Mo. She taught at Hillsboro, Hartley, Mount Pleasant and Harmony high schools and Stockport Junior High. She also assisted her husband on the family farm south of Hillsboro.
Mrs. WHITAKER was a lifelong member of Hillsboro Baptist Church and American Baptist Women. She was a 50-year member and past matron of the Hillsboro Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and was currently a member of Stockport Chapter No. 544. She had been a mother advisor of Bonaparte Assembly of Order of Rainbow for Girls. She also was a member of PEO Chapter AB of Bonaparte, Hillsboro Alpha Club, Hillsboro Quilters and Van Buren and Harmony Retired School Personnel Associations.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Clark WHITAKER and wife Norma of Hillsboro, John WHITAKER and wife Lorrie of Hillsboro and Bruce WHITAKER and wife Becky of Bentonsport; one daughter, Susan ZULK and husband John of Spencer; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Guy CLARK.
