HILL, Gerald Richard 'Pappy' -- Gerald Richard "Pappy" HILL, 90, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at the Jefferson County Hospital Living Care Center in Fairfield.

A graveside funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating.

No family visitation will be held, but friends may sign the Book of Condolence until 5 p.m. today or from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mr. HILL was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Libertyville, the son of Roy H. and Vada Fern PARKER HILL. He married Nada Lavelle HANNA June 14, 1940.

Mr. HILL attended Selma High School and graduated in 1937. He was a farmer for 30 years and worked for the Fairfield Community School District for 25 years.

He was baptized Nov. 10, 1928, and had been a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church.

Mr. HILL loved sports and shared his love by coaching Little League, Babe Ruth and softball teams in the Fairfield area for 40 years from 1955-1995.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Connie PARRISH of Keosauqua, Danny HILL and wife Cathi of Washington, Iowa, and Donal HILL and wife Mary of Fairfield; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara Jean MADDIX of Keosauqua.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Jerry PARRISH.
