HARGROVE, James W. -- James W. HARGROVE, 77, of Milton, died at 11:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Davis County Hospital.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

HARGROVE, James William 'Jim' -- James William "Jim" HARGROVE, 77, of Milton, died at 11:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Elsa Lawry officiating. Mr. HARGROVE was accorded cremation. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.

Family visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Heritage Society may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 186, Milton 52570.

Mr. HARGROVE was born Sept. 12, 1930, the son of Roland Lynn and Carrie SCHEYLI HARGROVE. He married Mary Jane FIXMER July 1, 1950, at her parents' home in Bloomfield.

Mr. HARGROVE attended both Pulaski and Milton high schools. He worked as a truck driver and lineman for Iowa Electric for 25 years. He and his wife purchased the grocery store in Milton Oct. 1, 1972, and operated the Hargrove Grocery and Electric Store for 24 years, retiring in November 1996.

Mr. HARGROVE served on the Fox Valley School Board and Milton Heritage Society Board. He was a longtime member of Milton United Methodist Church and a past member of the Nutgrowers Association.

He planted many varieties of nut trees on his property and raised horses, ponies, donkeys, domestic deer, peafowl and other small animals and birds.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joyce EGLI of Longview, Texas, Linda GITTINS of Cantril and Sue SEDORE and husband Bill of Milton; two sons, Jimmy HARGROVE of Milton and Andy HARGROVE and wife Mia of Kahoka, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther WELLS of Milton; and one brother, George HARGROVE of State College, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lillian; one infant son, William Wayne; three sisters, Ruth WARDLOW, Helen MANKA and Martha GRIM; one brother, Harold HARGROVE; and one son-in-law, Charles EGLI.
