L. Irene GREEN, 93, of Keosauqua died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

L. Irene GREEN, 93, of Keosauqua died at 1:30 P.M. Sunday July 13, 2008 at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua.

She was born Sept. 7, 1914 at Burr Oak, KS to Robert J. and Margaret DEMARAY MALPASS. She married O. Herman GREEN June 23, 1940 at her parents' home near Kuna, ID. He preceded her in death May 12, 2006. Irene grew up in Idaho, moved with her husband to a ranch near Pierre, SD and to rural Van Buren County in 1947. She was a farm homemaker and elementary teacher. She began her teaching career in 1937 and taught in rural schools in Idaho, South Dakota and Van Buren County and in Van Buren Community Schools from 1951 until retiring in 1979.

She was an active member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, served as church organist for more than 30 years, was a past president of Alpha Sigma Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma teachers' sorority and a member of Iowa Retired School Personnel Association. She loved and was proud of her students who excelled in many fields and included her doctor, banker, pharmacist, hair dresser and numerous friends.

Surviving are a son, Stanley GREEN and wife, Jeanette BUCKLEW of Des Moines, a daughter, Connie KELLER and husband, Robert of Fairfield, two grandchildren Andrew GREEN and wife Kate of North Las Vegas, NV and Rachel KELLER of Fairfield, a great grandson, Hayden GREEN, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Gladys TAYLOR and Ellen COFFEY, four brothers, Leonard, George and Averal MALPASS and an infant brother and a daughter-in-law, Susan GREEN.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday July 21, 2008 in Keosauqua United Methodist Church, Rev. Elsa Lawry officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield.

Visitation will open at 2 P.M. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua. A Delta Kappa Gamma service will be at 3 P.M. followed by visitation with family present till 5 P.M.

Memorials to Keosauqua United Methodist Church, Children's Section of Keosauqua Public Library or American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at 305 West Harrison, Fairfield, IA 52556.
