OLLIE — Charles L. WONDERLICH, age 89, of Ollie, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the Hospice House in Ottumwa.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, at the Ollie Baptist Church with Pastors Carla Nelson and Charles Comfort officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, at the Fremont Funeral Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Burial will be at the Ollie Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Richland American Legion Post # 504.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ollie Baptist Church, American Baptist Missions, or the donor’s choice.

Charles L. WONDERLICH was born July 30, 1918 west of Ollie, the son of Jacob L. and Grace RICE WONDERLICH. When he was 1½ years old, he moved to the farm where he lived 61 years until moving to Ollie in 1979. He attended grade school at Carter Country School and graduated from Ollie Consolidated Schools in 1936.

He was active in 4-H in his youth and as a leader before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1942 and served on the U.S.S. San Pablo in the S.W. Pacific and the liberation of the Philippines during W.W.II. He was united in marriage to Neoma M. BROLLIAR on March 25, 1945. His joy was his children and his grandchildren. He was a grain and dairy farmer. He and his wife maintained a herd of registered Brown Swiss. He served as Jackson Township trustee for many years. His pastimes in retirement included following agriculture, gardening, reading and spending time with his family.

Early in life he committed his life to Christ as his Savior. He was an active member of the Ollie Baptist Church, serving many years as deacon, 22 years as Sunday School Superintendent and on various committees. He served on many different boards of Mid-American Baptist Churches.

He is survived by his wife, Neoma; his children, Norman (Marj) WONDERLICH of Webster City, Lucinda (Jeff) FULLER of Des Moines, Verne (Bea) WONDERLICH of Johnston; his grandchildren, Vince (Lisen) WONDERLICH, Andrea (Matt) HARBAUGH, Jessica WONDERLICH, Sara WONDERLICH; step grandchildren, Amber MAREZ, Carrie (Nolan) MILLER, Chris FULLER; step great-granddaughter, Claire MILLER; his siblings, Robert (his identical twin) WONDERLICH, Milford (Betty) WONDERLICH, Lee (Marian) WONDERLICH, Marilyn (Gordon) GOTT, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives that he was proud to call family, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law, Norma Gene WONDERLICH and his double nephew, Roger WONDERLICH.

WONDERLICH, Charles L. -- Charles L. WONDERLICH, 89, of Ollie, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

A funeral was held this morning at Ollie Baptist Church, with the Revs. Carla Nelson and Charles Comfort officiating. Burial will be at Ollie Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Richland American Legion Post No. 504.

Memorials may be made to Ollie Baptist Church, American Baptist Missions or to an organization of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Fremont Funeral Chapel.
