Mr. James Speer died at his home in Cedar Twp. on Sunday Nov. 11. (1883) About 2 weeks before his deathe he was stricken with paralysis. Mr. Speer was born in County Antrim Ireland Jun 24 1811 and was 72 years old, four months and 17 days the time of his death. He imigrated from Ireland in 1838 and settled in Pennsylvania. In 1840 he moved to Iowa and located on the land on which he died. His widow and 4 children survive him. Mr. Speer was a member of the Presbyterian Church having joined in Ireland. He owned a farm of 325 acres and was in good circumstances. He was a quiet man, a good citizen and neighbor.
