CALLAWAY, Edward J. -- Edward J. CALLAWAY, 78, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.
A funeral is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Bob David officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the memorial chapel, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials have been established to the Mount Pleasant Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2561, American Legion Post No. 58 and Midwest Old Threshers.

Mr. CALLAWAY was born Dec. 19, 1929, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Alonzo B. and Nelda B. LUZADDER CALLAWAY. He married Roberta SCARFF Aug. 17, 1955, in Milan, Ill.
Mr. CALLAWAY attended Mount Pleasant schools. In 1951, he joined the United States Army; he was discharged Feb. 12, 1953.
A lifelong resident of Mount Pleasant, Mr. CALLAWAY was an auto body technician and was employed by Ross Shafer Auto for several years. For 11 years, he worked for Mount Pleasant Utilities in the maintenance department as a fireman engineer.
Mr. CALLAWAY enjoyed working with cars. He was a midget, go-cart and stock car racer for 15 years and was known as Sonny CALLAWAY in the racing circuit. He actively volunteered on the entertainment committee at Midwest Old Threshers Reunion for more than 20 years.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda DOVENSPIKE and Connie METH and husband Duane, all of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Wanda ARONSON of Bettendorf; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and cousins in the Fairfield area.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
