COCHRAN, Robert R. -- Robert R. COCHRAN, 92, of Farmington, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua following a lengthy illness.

A graveside service was held this morning at Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua,with the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Military rites were in the care of Sargeant-Oswelier Post. The body has been cremated.

Memorials to Sterling Visions may be left at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua or may be mailed to the family at 502 Maiden Lane, Farmington 52626.

Mr. COCHRAN was born July 31, 1915, near Azen in Scotland County, Mo., the son of Glen and Mary BURNS COCHRAN. He married Helen L. AYLOR Jan. 11, 1946, in Carthage, Ill. She died Nov. 26, 2002.

Mr. COCHRAN farmed near Mount Sterling, worked in timber, had been a Pinkerton guard at Fruehauf in Fort Madison and retired to Farmington in 2002.

Mr. COCHRAN served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.

He was a 56-year member of American Legion Sargeant-Osweiler Post No. 563 in Bonaparte.

Survivors include three sons, Ben GILBERT and wife Karen of Denmark, John COCHRAN and wife Mary Lou of Burlington and Randy COCHRAN and wife Brenda of Mount Sterling; one daughter, Susan KROUSE and husband Joe of Farmington; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sylvia COCHRAN and Dorothy McDAVID, both of Bonaparte.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hollis and John COCHRAN; two sisters, Eva Glenn in infancy and Helen Todd WATKINS; and one great-grandson.
