BOLEY, Betty Lou -- Betty Lou BOLEY, 79, of Keosauqua, died at noon Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A funeral was held today at Keosauqua United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Elsa Lawry and the Rev. ellis andrews (sic - lower case) officiating. Burial was in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Memorials to Keosauqua United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or Van Buren County Hospital may be left at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua or may be mailed to the family at PO Box 34, Keosauqua 52565.

Mrs. BOLEY was born Sept. 28, 1928, in rural Birmingham, the daughter of Lloyd and Hazel LYON JOHNSON. She married Leo G. BOLEY Jr. Aug. 27, 1947, in Birmingham. He died July 23, 2004.

Mrs. BOLEY and her husband resided in various locations where they were schoolteachers, including spending many years in Keosauqua. Mrs. BOLEY graduated from Birmingham High School in 1945 and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, where she earned her teaching credentials. She taught in Troy, Bonaparte and Upton schools and had been justice of peace in Keosauqua for many years. She also had worked at Van Buren County Hospital and Van Buren County Care Center.

Mrs. BOLEY was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She served many years as chairperson of the funeral lunch committee. She was a 50-year member, past president and treasurer of American Legion Auxiliary Beer-Barker Unit No. 113 of Keosauqua. She had been active in Caravan Trails Girl Scouts Council.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Ellen BOLEY of Keosauqua; one son, Dennis BOLEY of Port Orchard, Wash.; one granddaughter, Hollie L. BOLEY RINSCHLER of Chesapeake, Va., who was raised in the BOLEY home; and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
