ARONHALT, Roger N. -- Roger N. ARONHALT, 82, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, July 4, 2008, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Don Coffin officiating. Burial wil be in Cambrian Cemetery near Columbus Junction, with military rites provided by the Winfield American Legion Post No. 645.

Visitation began at 1 p.m. today at the memorial chapel, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials have been established to the Salem Fire Department and Cambrian Cemetery.

Mr. ARONHALT was born March 24, 1926, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Ralph N. and Beulah C. RICHIE ARONHALT. He married Margaret Louise HUMPHREYS Sept. 17, 1955, at Salem Presbyterian Church in rural Columbus Junction.

Mr. ARONHALT received his early education at Colfax Country School. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1943 and then attended Iowa Wesleyan College for one year. Mr. ARONHALT served in the United States Navy on the destroyer, USS Benner, during World War II. Following his discharge from the Navy, Mr. ARONHALT graduated from Iowa State College. He then joined his father on the family farm and farmed in the Stockport and Glasgow area. He moved to the Cedar Creek community in 1969. For a short time, he worked for Superior Cable and then for REC in Mount Pleasant for 20 years, retiring in 1991.

Mr. ARONHALT attended Mount Union Trinity Church as a young boy and later Methodist Church in Winfield after his family moved there in 1936. He was a member of Cedar Creek Church and Henry County Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H leader and a 60-year member of American Legion Post No. 645 in Winfield.

In 1959, he was named Master Swine Producer.

He enjoyed reading western novels and gardening.

Survivors include his wife and two sons, John N. ARONHALT and James A. ARONHALT, both of Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
