NORTHROP, Iris SWARTOUT -- Iris SWARTOUT NORTHROP, 82, died Friday, June 6, 2008, in Indianapolis, Ind.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hillsboro City Cemetery in Hillsboro, followed by visitation at Hillsboro Christian Church.

A local memorial fund has been established for the Hillsboro Alpha Club.

Weir and Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. NORTHROP was born July 15, 1925, the daughter of Bryan and Bertha COLEMAN. She married Glen SWARTOUT. He died in 1970.

Mrs. NORTHROP was raised on a farm near Hillsboro. She was a homemaker, gardener, seamstress and businesswoman. She owned and operated the Hillsboro grocery store for a period of time.

She was a Christian Science practitioner for many years and was a member of the Third Church of Christ, Scientist.

Survivors include her husband, Daryl Elsner NORTHROP; two children, Karl SWARTOUT and wife Susan and Roger SWARTOUT and wife Marcia, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Chester COLEMAN of New London; and two sisters, Wanda McDOWELL of Wever and Ruth JOHNSON of Hillsboro.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by one son, James; her parents; two brothers, John and Dale COLEMAN; and one sister, Reba JUDD.
