MILLER, Orval J. -- Orval J. MILLER, 87, of Wayland, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Park Place in Mount Pleasant following a lengthy illness.

A service has been set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church near Wayland, with the Rev. Robert Hartzler officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery.

Family visitation will begin at noon Friday at the church, with family present from 5-8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Parkview Home in Wayland or Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.

Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland is assisting with arrangements.

Mr. MILLER was born Dec. 5, 1920, near Wayland, the son of Amasa and Katy RESCHLY MILLER. He married Alberta M. BOESE July 11, 1943, at her parents' home near Wayland.

Mr. MILLER was raised on the family farm near Wayland. He attended grade school at Wayland and was taught by his older brother Orie. He started out as a farmer, and when health concerns arose, he became a plumber. He and his wife owned and operated Orval Miller Plumbing and Heating for more than 40 years before retiring.

Mr. MILLER was a member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. He was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and youth counselor. He also was on the committee to build the Parkview Home, as well as the new Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.

After retiring he enjoyed fishing, putting puzzles together and doing word search puzzles. He also enjoyed visiting with people and teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Stanley L. MILLER and wife Karole of Wayland, Steven J. MILLER and wife Rhonda of Wayland and Sheldon R. MILLER and wife Lori of Wayland; one daughter, Lucy A. LEICHTY and husband Irvan of Wayland; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Leona LEICHTY, Susan TROYER, Vera SCHLATTER, Ruth GREISER and Lenora MILLER; and four brothers, Orie, Mahlon, Paul and Melvin MILLER.
