PARSONS, Wayne R. -- Wayne R. PARSONS, 74, of Lafayette, Ind., died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Heritage Healthcare.

A service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette, Ind., with the Rev. Edward J. Tourangeau officiating. Final interment will be at 1:30 p.m. May 3 in Union Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Mr. PARSONS was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John L. and Mildred FARR PARSONS. He married Diane Kay HUMESTON Aug. 29, 1953, in Fairfield. She died Aug. 25, 2005.

Mr. PARSONS was a 1952 graduate of West High School in Waterloo. He attended Parsons College in Fairfield. He was in the Army from 1955 until 1962, serving in atomic tests with Joint Task Force 7 in the Marshall Islands.

Mr. PARSONS was the director of The Community Alcohol Program in South Bend, Ind. He was a certified alcohol counselor with Wabash Valley Hospital in West Lafayette, Ind., and also with Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Ind. In 1983, he and his wife moved to Quincy, Ill., where he was a district manager for the United States Chamber of Commerce until retiring in 1995. He moved to Lafayette in 2006.

Mr. PARSONS was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.

He enjoyed researching family history and gardening.

Survivors include four children, Jeffery D. PARSONS and wife Carla of South Bend, Ind., Robert Hayes PARSONS and wife Audra of Liberty, Ill., Kelsey Sue PARSONS of Lafayette, Ind., and K. John PARSONS and wife Annette of Clarks Hill, Ind.; two brothers, David John PARSONS of Waterloo and James Roger PARSONS of Tripoli; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Patrick.
