PHILIPS, Maynard A. -- Maynard A. PHILIPS, 87, of Keosauqua, died at 12:58 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Lutheran Nursing Home in Muscatine.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

PHILIPS, Maynard A. -- Maynard A. PHILIPS, 87, of Keosauqua, died at 12:58 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Lutheran Homes in Muscatine.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Keosauqua United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bryon Wixom officiating. Cremation will follow, with private burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials to Happy Day Express pre-school or a charity of the donor's choice may be left at the funeral home or mailed to PO Box 513, Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. PHILIPS was born Aug. 29, 1920, in rural Jefferson County, the son of Lealdes and Edith CRENSHAW PHILIPS. He married Mildred H. BETTIS Feb. 18, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She died June 8, 1985.

Mr. PHILIPS lived in the Fairfield, Hillsboro and Stockport communities and in Keosauqua for many years. He farmed, drove a cream truck for Keosauqua Creamery and worked at Iowa-Missouri Hi-Bred Corn Co.

Mr. PHILIPS was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church and was a regular assistant at the church's Happy Day Express pre-school. He bowled on the Iowa-Missouri team and was a sports fan. He had also been a Cub Scout leader.

Survivors include three daughters, Connie MILLER and husband Robert of Muscatine, Mary WEAVER and husband Gary of Davenport and Sandi SLATER and husband Steve of Denison; one son, Mike PHILIPS and wife Kay of Mount Pleasant; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Treva GREINER, Meda KOPSIEKER, Shirley BAIRD and Erma JOHNSTON, all of Fairfield.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Richard; one granddaughter; three brothers, Dale, Donald "Tubby" and Doyle PHILIPS; and one sister, Eva HOOTMAN.
