Wayne Ordell WOLFE

Wayne Ordell WOLFE, 84, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at his residence after failing in health.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating.

Visitation will begin noon Monday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Interment, with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29, will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

A memorial has been established for Hospice of Washington County.

Mr. WOLFE was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Artesian, S.D., the son of Verner and Glenna HENRY WOLFE. He married Elizabeth M. VARNEY May 17, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. WOLFE attended school in South Dakota and later attended school in Brighton. He has lived most of his life in Washington County, Iowa. Upon his return from service in the United States Army Air Force, Mr. WOLFE worked at a concrete company and bean plant in Washington. He later worked 40 years at the Farm Implement Company in Washington, where he was an implement mechanic until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement, he continued to work for a few years at the Farm Implement Company.

Mr. WOLFE was a veteran of World War II.

He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and in his earlier days bowling.

He was a member of the Country Travelers Chapter of the Iowa Good Sams Camping Club.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert WOLFE of South English, Don WOLFE of Conesville and Dennis WOLFE and wife Sandi of Washington, Iowa; one daughter, Gwen SHEPHERD and husband Ed of Washington, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
