BALES, Iola M. -- Iola M. BALES, 87, of Keosauqua, died at 6:45 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

BALES, Iola M. -- Iola M. BALES, 87, of Keosauqua, died at 6:45 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Bryon Wixom officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials to Keosauqua United Methodist Church or Van Buren County Hospital may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 29879 Fir Ave., Cantril 52542.

Mrs. BALES was born Sept. 20, 1920, south of Cantril, the daughter of Roy and Effie DANIELS KIRKHART. She married Charles E. BALES April 4, 1964, at Methodist Church in Monmouth, Ill. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. BALES lived in Ottumwa and Seymour before moving to the Keosauqua area in the spring of 1991. She graduated from Cantril High School in 1939 and worked at Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison during World War II. She later worked at Square D in Cedar Rapids and JCPenney in Ottumwa. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Ottumwa.

Mrs. BALES was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church.

Surviving relatives include two great-nephews, Neil and Phillip KIRKHART of Cantril.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jesse KIRKHART.
