A. Dolores BAKER

A. Dolores BAKER, 89, of Keota, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney, following a brief illness.

A Mass of the Resurrection was held this morning at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial was in Holy Trinity Cemeteries-Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in rural Harper.

Mrs. BAKER was born June 30, 1918, in Keokuk County, the daughter of Michael L. and Cecelia STRIEGEL HAMMES. She married John M. BAKER Nov. 15, 1928, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek. He died in 1971.

Mrs. BAKER received her education at Saints Peter and Paul School. She and her husband lived and farmed in the Clear Creek community until moving into Keota in 1968. She also worked at Advance Ross, Washington Manufacturing and Maplewood Manor.

Mrs. BAKER was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She had worked with Keokuk County Hospice.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing with her nieces and nephews and helping others. She also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, picking up hickory nuts, quilting, crocheting and gardening flowers.

Survivors include four brothers, Edwin HAMMES and John Marvin HAMMES, both of Fairfield, Kenneth HAMMES of Solon and Cletus HAMMES of Sigourney and four sisters, Eveleen ULIN, Donna PAARMAN, Elizabeth CONRAD and Beatrice CLUBB, all of Sigourney.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lawrence "Bud" HAMMES; and two sisters, Leola HEISDORFFER and Agatha CONRAD.
