SAVAGE, Lewis Dysart -- The Rev. Lewis Dysart SAVAGE, 93, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Friends Church in Salem, with the Rev. Stephen SAVAGE officiating. Burial will be in Salem East Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will be present from 6-7:30 p.m.

Memorials have been established to Salem Friends Church and Lewelling House.

The Rev. SAVAGE was born Jan. 7, 1915, on the family farm near Salem, the son of David L. and Mae DYSART SAVAGE. He married Esther L. STANLEY May 26, 1936, in Indianola. She died July 13, 2001.

The Rev. SAVAGE was a graduate of Salem High School. He attended William Penn College and William Jewell College. He taught in several rural Iowa schools and served as pastor in Quaker churches in Iowa, including in Jefferson County, Ohio and Indiana. In 1968, the Rev. SAVAGE returned to the Salem area to serve the Cedar Creek Friends Church.

He was a member of the Religions Society of Friends and Salem Friends Church. He served as chairman of the Lewelling House Board for 20 years.

The Rev. SAVAGE enjoyed farming, reading and doing historical research on the Quaker church, the Underground Railroad and his family's genealogy.

Survivors include one son, Stephen SAVAGE and wife Marilee of Salem, Ohio; three daughters, Sharolyn LISK and husband Loren of Mount Pleasant, Joan KILDOW and husband William of Lancaster, Calif., and Rosalie PADGETT and husband Jerry of LaCrosse, Wis.; one daughter-in-law, Elaine SAVAGE of Grand Island, Neb.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, George SAVAGE and Stanley SAVAGE; four brothers, Sam, John, Joe and David SAVAGE; one sister, Dorothy BARBER; and one infant sister, Lucille SAVAGE.
