GENTRY, Evyn Marie -- Evyn Marie GENTRY, age 3, of Ollie, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 2:00 until 8:00 PM at Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 28 at 10:00 AM at Prairie View United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made in her memory to either Pekin Child Care Center or the Evyn GENTRY Memorial Scholarship at Central College in Pella, Iowa.
Evyn Marie was born May 11, 2004 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the "princess" of Christopher and Melissa VINK GENTRY. She was baptized August 29, 2004 at the Prairie View United Methodist Church. Evyn attended the Pekin Child Care Center with her best friends, Sarah-Mia-MaddieBlack (three girls, one word). She was active in swimming and gymnastic lessons at the Ottumwa YMCA with her friend Kenna Wolbers. Evyn loved to swim in any body of water from the Caribbean Sea to her bathtub at home. She loved music and singing and had informed her parents that she was going to be a princess, a dancer, a rock star, a mermaid and a doctor when she grew up.
Evyn enjoyed playing princess and loved shoes and handbags. She would run through the house or kick a field goal in mom's four-inch stilettos. The love of Evyn's life was her best friend and brother Isaac. Two of their favorite activities were playing football and playing "Bobbie Jo" (hair dresser). They enjoyed snuggling on the couch and watching movies, running laps around the house, splashing half of the water out of the bathtub and chasing their buddy Izzie, their dog and pillow. When Evyn had her tonsils removed, laying on Izzie was the only place she found comfort. Evyn was very proud of her pink diamond earrings which she received when having her ears pierced the day after Christmas, 2007. Other special friends include Giovy Eekhoff and the Latcham boys. She adored her grandparents and asked daily when it would be Nana Moe-Day or Gramma-Day.
Those left to honor her memory include her parents Chris and Melissa GENTRY; little brother, Isaac; her dog, Izzie; thirteen grandparents, Arlyn & Louise VINK of Pella; Dave & Adrian GENTRY of Ollie; Joe & Katie DANIEL of Lidderdale, Iowa; Arie & Joyce VINK of Pella; Phyllis HARPER of Panora, Iowa; Mary GENTRY of Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania; Loretta KUEBLER of Lidderdale; Martha DANIEL of Lidderdale and Antonia RYKEN of Pella; aunts and uncles, Jame GENTRY of Ames, Iowa; Beth & Matt GUISE of Plainfield, Illinois; Lisa & Jeromy SOMMERFELD of Lidderdale and Tyler DANIEL of Lidderdale; three cousins, Ben & Abby GUISE and Ally SOMMERFELD; as well as her teachers and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father's first wife, Brenda DANIEL GENTRY; great-grandparents Clifford HARPER, James GENTRY, Howard & Nina MILLS and one cousin, Elizabeth SOMMERFELD.
Evyn was the heart of her family and will be remembered every day of our lives by the many people who loved her. She brought joy, laughter and sunshine everywhere she went.
