HELLWEG, Arthur -- Arthur HELLWEG of Fairfield died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

HELLWEG, Arthur H. -- Arthur H. HELLWEG, 86, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A funeral was held this morning at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Mr. HELLWEG's family.

Mr. HELLWEG was born Aug. 13, 1921, in St. Paul, Iowa, the son of Rudolph and Elizabeth UMTHUM HELLWEG. He married Gladys (sic - Glorine) KRUSE April 19. 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point.

Mr. HELLWEG attended school in St. Paul. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines.

Mr. HELLWEG farmed his entire career and also worked in Fort Madison at the Ford garage as a bodyman for a few years.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randy and wife Jodie and Mike and wife Tracie, all of Fairfield; four daughters, Janet HELLWEG of Wellsboro, Mass., Mary Kay HELLWEG HERDLISKA of Mason City, Brenda HELLWEG of Fairfield and Monica HELLWEG of Wellsboro, Mass.; nine grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie HELLWEG of Fort Madison; and one sister, Florence BROWN of Fort Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terrence; three brothers, Cletus, Adrian and Donald; and three sisters, Doris MEIEROTTO, Erma MASSEY and Mary HELLWEG.
