ERNST, Kenneth Arthur -- Kenneth Arthur ERNST, 59, of Surprise, Ariz., died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Del Webb Hospital in Surprise, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gift of Life Transplant House, 705 Second St., SW Rochester, MN 55902.

Mr. ERNST was born Aug. 25, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Edwin Joseph and Alice Irene ERNST.

For more than 20 years, Mr. ERNST worked for the Chicago Transit Authority before retiring. He moved to El Paso, Texas, for a short time. Two years ago, he had a liver transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He then lived at Village Terrace in Keosauqua until his health was better. He eventually moved to Surprise, Ariz.

Mr. ERNST had a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in financial planning.

He enjoyed walking, reading, watching movies, playing tennis, collecting baseball cards and traveling.

Survivors include two brothers, Robert ERNST of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Steve ERNST of Fairfield, and one sister, Judith ERNST of Indianapolis, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
