SOBASKI, Robert C. -- Robert C. SOBASKI, 85, of Richland, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.

SOBASKI, Robert Sr. -- Robert SOBASKI, Sr. (RC), 85, of Richland passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa. He was born May 10, 1922 to Anthony and Lena BECHEN SOBASKI at Lake Andes, SD. Robert's family moved to Iowa shortly after his birth and he was raised on a farm in the Germanville area. He attended country school near Polishville and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1940. He completed welding school in Troy, OH. Robert was employed as a welder with B & W shipbuilding in Alliance, OH.
Robert married Eleanor ADAM on June 6, 1944, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek, IA. They returned to Ohio to live and work through 1947. The couple returned to farm north of Ottumwa, IA. In 1948, the couple moved to Richland to farm in the area until retirement in 1984. Robert also sold Pioneer Seed for thirteen years.
Robert (RC) enjoyed his family, farming and socializing. He was a founding member of Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland where he was also active in the Knights of Columbus and Lion's International organizations. A 30-year member, Robert served as Lion's Club president, tail-twister and in other leadership positions within the Lion's Club of Richland.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Eleanor. They have eight children, four sons: Larry (Mary) SOBASKI of Packwood, IA, Kenneth (Sandy) SOBASKI of Ollie, IA, Dennis (Judy) SOBASKI of Fairfield, IA, Robert Jr. (Peg) SOBASKI of Richland, IA, four daughters: Linda (Doc) WEBER of Kalona, IA, Mary Jo (Gene) GRUNEICH of Bettendorf, IA, Laura (Pat) McKILLIP of Davenport, IA and LuAnn (Mike) CROSS of Orlando, FL. Robert has 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Robert is also survived by his brother Richard SOBASKI of Brighton, IA and his sister Evelyn ADAM of Richland, IA. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Lena SOBASKI.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2008, at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Fladung, Rev. Bob Streigel and Rev. Charles Adam officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery. Visitation at the church will open at 3:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday Evening, February 17, 2008. Memorials for Hospice of Iowa, Lion's Club International or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundations may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 33282 320th Avenue, Richland, IA 52585. Gould Funeral Home of Richland is in charge of arrangements.
