HARTSOCK, Ernest J. -- Ernest J. HARTSOCK, 82, of Brighton, died at 9:48 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.
The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Friday at First Church of God in Brighton, with the Rev. Rick Hughes and Elder Ryan Meader officiating. Burial will be in Hummer Cemetery north of Sharon Center.
Visitation with the family will be 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at First Church of God.
Memorials to the family may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 105 W. Madison St., Brighton 52540. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. HARTSOCK was born July 21, 1925, near Sharon Center, the son of Ernest L. and Clarice M. GLIDER HARTSOCK. He married Geraldine ALBRIGHT Sept. 7, 1951, in Clinton. She survives.
He grew up near Sharon Center, Hills and attended country school at Oxford and the Great Lakes Bible Institute at Zion, Ill. He and his wife moved to Kalona in 1983 and to Brighton in 1994. He farmed until 1967 when he went to work for Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Mr. HARTSOCK was a member of First Church of God in Brighton and was very active at the East Iowa Bible Camp near Millersburg.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Eugene HARTSOCK and wife Anne and Arthur HARTSOCK, all of St. Paul, Minn.; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; four brothers, Charles HARTSOCK of Norway, Iowa, Robert HARTSOCK of Portland, Ore., John HARTSOCK of Missouri and Darrel HARTSOCK of Clarksville, Tenn.; and one sister, Laura POGGENPOHL of North Liberty.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stanley and Lawrence HARTSOCK; and one sister, Carol HILLS.
