DAY, Gordon Hayes -- Gordon Hayes DAY, 80, of Ollie, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie, with the Rev. David Nolte and the Rev. Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland. A memorial to the family may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 205 N. Second St., Ollie 52576.

Mr. DAY was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Hayesville, the son of Kenneth and Esther DAY of Martinsburg. He married Leora ASHE in Richland Feb. 23, 1949. She survives.

Mr. DAY grew up in the Hedrick area, graduated from Ollie High School in 1946 and attended Parsons College in Fairfield.

He was a road grader operator for Keokuk County for six years, then farmed until he and his wife moved into Ollie in 1994.

Mr. DAY enjoyed camping, the Iowa State Fair, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and being a "snow bird" in South Texas in the winter.

He was a member of Woolson Friends Church, Richland Lions Club and a 50-year member of Justice Lodge No. 230, A.F. & A.M. of Ollie.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, John DAY and his wife Ann of Ollie; one daughter, Linda TALIAFERRO and her husband David of Lubbock, Texas; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rodney DAY of Ottumwa; and two sisters, Phyllis SCHREINER of Ollie and Joan HAPPEL of Winston Salem, N.C.
