SANDBERG, David L. -- David L. SANDBERG, 74, of 548 Forest Dr. SE died Wed. Jan 16, 2008, at his home after an extended illness. Services were at 10:00 AM on Monday at the New Covenant Bible Church where there also was military rites. Rev. Bob Westfall officiated. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Joyce, two daughters, Karin (Joseph) JOHNSON of West Des Moines, Lori (Allen) ARNDT of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Martha (Don) NEWELL of Johnston. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Bradford (Erin) JOHNSON, Spencer, Aubrey and Tessa JOHNSON and Angela, Stephanie, Erica, Trevor and Cordell ARNDT, one great grandchild, Dante ARNDT and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Dean, Denny and Dwight.

Dave was born on Feb. 8, 1933, the oldest of five children to Rev. LaVerne and Katherine HALLBLADE SANDBERG in Wilmar, Minnesota. He graduated from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis and proudly enisted in the Navy where he served from 1950 to 1955 during the Korean War. He married Joyce S. ABBOTT on June 30, 1957 in Fairfield and resided in Chicago, Ill. before moving to Cedar Rapids.

He worked for Frank Bedell Professional Management for several years and later for Fred Gibson Associates in commercial and investments real estate. He was a member of New Covenant Bible Church where he served on the Elder Board, Toastmasters and the Cedar Rapids Real Estate Board. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, Cubs and especially enjoyed time spent with his many friends and beloved family.

Dave's family would like to thank Sharon Cozad of the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City and Mercy Hospice in Cedar Rapids to include, Lynn, Angie and Rachel for the loving care given to Dave. A memorial fund has been established. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.
