Melvin F. DAVIS

Melvin F. DAVIS, 77, of 1762 Iris Ave., died at 9:15 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Metz and the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church and Fairfield Public Library.

Mr. DAVIS was born July 28, 1925, in North English, the son of Floyd and Edna Blanche MILLER DAVIS. He married Katheryn Doris ARMSTRONT July 19, 1949, at the chapel of the Methodist church in Fairfield.

Mr. DAVIS grew up in the North English community. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, on the USS Yakutat in the Pacific Theater. He lived most of his adult life in the Fairfield community. He was a farmer and worked at Harper Brush Works, Fairfield Glove and Rockwell International.

Mr. DAVIS was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elks, VFW, Heritage Club and the Weakenders Camping Club.

Survivors include his wife; one son Roger DAVIS of Ankeny; and one sister, Ruby HUMPHREY of Deep River.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Etta YOUNG and Elva NIMAN.
