SPILGER, Alma L. -- Alma L. SPILGER, 86, of Brighton, died at 11:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Washington Care Center in Washington, Iowa.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the Rev. Fred Weiss officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer, Neb., with the Rev. Dean Elmore officiating.

Visitation with the family will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1690 330th St., Brighton 52540.

Mrs. SPILGER was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Torrington, Wyo., the daughter of Murl Ross and Lottie Marie MARSH COEN. She married Paul L. SPILGER Nov. 22, 1943, near Palmer, Neb. He died Oct. 19, 2001.

Mrs. SPILGER grew up in Wyoming, Arkansas, Colorado and Nebraska. She attended Immanuel Missionary College in Colorado Springs, Colo. Mrs. SPILGER was a farm homemaker. She also worked at the Grand Island newspaper and cleaned motels. She moved to Brighton in 2001 and entered Washington Care Center in May 2007.

She was a member of Harvest Time Baptist Church in Grand Island, Neb., and was church pianist.

She played the accordion, entertained nursing home residents by playing the piano, raised large gardens and enjoyed quilting.

Survivors include one daughter, Marie ELMORE and husband Dean of Brighton; one son, Murl SPILGER and wife Brenda of Ligonier, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth MONTGOMERY of Shoals, Ind., and Betty WALTER of Buffalo, N.Y.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Wayne, Orville, Clayton, Paul, Clifton and Melvin.
