Richard W. WHIPPLE

Richard W. WHIPPLE, 84, of Fairfield, formerly of the Batavia area, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at home.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville, with the Rev. Michael Renken officiating. Military rites will be conducted by O.B. Nelson American Legion Post No. 775 of Ottumwa. Cremation will follow the service, with inurnment at a later date in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.

Open visitation will begin at noon Sunday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia, with the family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to Faith United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.

Mr. WHIPPLE was born July 30, 1923, in Wapello County, the son of Wayne and Addie RILL WHIPPLE. He married E. Maxine PAYNE June 8, 1946, in Bladensburg.

Mr. WHIPPLE was raised and educated in Agency, graduating from Agency High School in 1940. He had farmed in Wapello and Jefferson counties his entire life.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville, Olive Branch Masonic Lodge of Agency and Batavia Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve WHIPPLE and wife Rita of Cosby, Mo., and Greg WHIPPLE of Westfield, Ind.; one daughter, Carla BLOOMQUIST and husband Butch of Fairfield; five grandsons, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Miriam SAMUELSON of Cedar Rapids and Ruth LEICK of Dubuque; four brothers, Carl of Broomfield, Colo., Charles of Timnith, Colo, Paul of Story City and Harold of Lacona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Vicky MANNING.
