SCHOENI, Ethyl M. -- Ethyl M. SCHOENI, 96, of Douds, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

A graveside service was at 3 p.m. today in Leando Cemetery in Douds, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating.

Memorials to Douds First Responders may be mailed to the family at PO Box 8, Douds 52551.

Arrangements are in the care of Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Mrs. SCHOENI was born Aug. 11, 1911, in Douds-Leando, the daughter of Daniel S. and Nettie KERR PLOWMAN. She married Ellsworth W. SCHOENI June 9, 1935, at the family home in Douds. He died Sept. 12, 2004.

Mrs. SCHOENI graduated from high school in Excelsior Springs, Mo., in 1929. She attended Kansas University, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Mrs. SCHOENI ran a hotel in Excelsior Springs, was a glass engraver, taught sewing in a Singer sewing machine shop and worked as a riveter in a bomber factory in San Diego, Calif., and in the Needles, Calif., post office during World War II. She was a farm homemaker in the Douds community. She was a long-time director if (sic) Farmers & Traders Savings Bank in Douds, which was founded by her father is operated by her son and daughter.

Mrs. SCHOENI was an original member of Van Buren County Hospital Auxiliary.

She was an expert seamstress.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra MORADI and husband Ali of Douds; one son, Gary SCHOENI and wife Kathryn of Douds; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Bessie CHADER.
