Mary L. PACHA, 88, of Washington, Iowa, died at 2:56 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA) following a brief illness.
A funeral Mass is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Charles J. Fladung officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.
Visitation will open at 5 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Prayers for a Christian Wake will begin at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery, for masses to be said at either St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. James Catholic Church in Washington or to Halcyon House in Washington.
Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in the care of the arrangements.
Mrs. PACHA was born July 20, 1919, in Fort Madison, the daughter of Oscar and Helen LUBBERS HOFFMAN. She married Richard P. PACHA Oct. 7, 1944, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison. He died in 1997.
After graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1937, she worked for the Schaeffer Pen Company and later for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator.
She and her husband farmed west of Pleasant Plain for several years and then moved to East Pleasant Plain in 1951, where she was a housewife and mother. In 1994, she and her husband moved to Halcyon House in Washington.
Mrs. PACHA was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. After moving to Washington, she attended St. James Catholic Church.
Mrs. PACHA was an avid reader, who enjoyed flowers and birds.
Survivors include six sons: Stephen PACHA and wife Evelyn of Birmingham, Joseph PACHA and wife Jennifer of Bloomington, Ill., Chris PACHA and his Lorraine of Davenport, David PACHA and wife Kierston of Fairfield, Tim PACHA and wife Jackie of Fairfield, Rick PACHA and his wife Lori of Coralville; three daughters: Mary Diane OVERTURFF and husband Harry of Bardstown, Ky., Catherine LAWSON and husband Bob of Fairfield and Patricia PACHA of Iowa City; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Francis HOFFMAN.
