JOHNSTON, Wesley LeRoy -- Wesley LeRoy JOHNSTON, 88, of Burlington, died at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at Great River Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington.

A service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at SS Mary Catholic Church in West Burlington, with the Rev. David Steinle officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, with the Rev. David Peterson officiating.

Following Saturday's service, a luncheon will be held in the parish center.

A rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Prugh Funeral Service chapel in Burlington, followed by family visitation until 8:30 p.m.

A family visitation also will be from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Mr. JOHNSTON was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Birmingham, the son of Ralph McKinley and Ava Clamanta CLARK JOHNSTON. He married Virlee MARTIN ANDERSON Aug. 1, 1950. She died in October 1981. He married Kathleen Ann FLYNN May 29, 1982, in Burlington.

Mr. JOHNSTON served in the United States Army during World War II. He was an assistant purchasing agent at American Chain and Cable Company and retired in 1982. He also worked six years in lawn and garden at Farm King, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of SS Mary and Patricks Catholics Church.

Mr. JOHNSTON was an RSVP volunteer, a foster parent and a member of the Big Brothers Association. He delivered Meals on Wheels and drove people to doctor's appointments. He was a Perkins School volunteer. He also sang in the St. Patricks' Choir and Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

He gardened and was known for his roses.

Survivors include his wife; one foster son, Michael PHUNG of Parker, Colo., and two brothers, Donald JOHNSTON of Fairfield and Charles JOHNSTON of Wickenburg, Ariz.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son; and one brother, Kenneth JOHNSTON.
