Robert J. KISLING

Robert J. KISLING, 78, of Keosauqua, died at 7:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial, with military rites by American Legion Beer-Barker Post, will be in Miller Chapel Cemetery, northeast of Keosauqua.

Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where family will be present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials to Keosauqua Senior Center may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 7806 River Road, Ottumwa 52501.

Mr. KISLING was born Nov. 20, 1929, in rural Keosauqua, the son of Roy and Evelyn BROWN KISLING. He married Mary M. CHAMP June 20, 1954, in Fairfield. She preceded him in death.

Mr. KISLING attended Van Buren County rural schools. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He farmed and did carpenter work. He also had been a Pinkerton security guard in Fairfield and had driven a bus for the Van Buren Community School District. He had recently resided at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center.

Mr. KISLING was a member of American Legion Beer-Barker Post No. 113 of Keosauqua. Until recently, he had served on the Miller Chapel Cemetery board and taken part in activities at the Keosauqua Senior Center.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald and wife Jean of Birmingham and Fred and wife Jane of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dwight of Montrose, Colo., Charles of Keosauqua and Dean of Cedar Rapids; and six sisters, Dorothy MANLEY of Monmouth, Ill., Mildred BOWMAN of Montrose, Colo., Helen MANLEY of Fairfield, Grace WHITFIELD of Perry, Fla., Lola JEWELL of Moline, Ill., and Carol KISLING of Cedar Rapids.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul and Carl; and one great-grandson.
