CHEZUM, Donald E. -- Donald E. CHEZUM, 83, of Knoxville, Ill., died at 10:38 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at his residence.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Ill., with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post No. 285 of Galesburg, Ill. Cremation rites will be accorded.

No visitation is planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Donald E. CHEZUM Memorial Fund through First Midwest Bank in Knoxville, Ill.

Mr. CHEZUM was born March 29, 1924, in Fairfield, the son of Glen and Minnie ARNOLD CHEZUM. He married June HEADLEY Nov. 27, 1947, in Fairfield.

Mr. CHEZUM was reared and educated in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1941.

He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 until 1945. He served overseas in the 179th Infantry and was wounded in action in Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He also received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Three Bronze Battle Stars, Four Overseas Service Bars, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. CHEZUM was a plumber for 55 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Plumbers Union Local No. 25.

He was a Methodist. He was a lifetime member of the Harry Philblad American Legion Post No. 749 of Knoxville, Ill., and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2257 of Galesburg, Ill.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Tammy MOORE and husband Keith of Allen, Texas; two grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth SCHNEIDER of Fairfield, Emma YOEMAN of Fairfield and Betty MOWREY of Rock Island, Ill.; and one brother, John CHEZUM of Alexis, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harry and Ralph.
