Ralph W. RITZ

Ralph W. RITZ, 75, of Fairfield, formerly of Selma, died at 7:35 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in rural Floris with military rites by American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494 of Douds.

Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials to Hospice of Central Iowa may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 2901 W. Adams Ave., Apt. B, Fairfield 52556.

Mr. RITZ was born May 25, 1932, in rural Floris to Harry O. and Nellie JONES RITZ. He married Evelyn MADDEN Aug. 5, 1955, at Selma United Methodist Church.

Mr. RITZ graduated from Selma High School in 1949. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954.

Mr. RITZ was employed at Morell's in Ottumwa for 23 years. After Morrell's closed, Mr. RITZ attended Indian Hills Community College where he studied television and appliance repair. He became a self-employed repairman in the Selma and Douds area until retiring in 2004.

Mr. RITZ was a member of Willard Street United Methodist Church in Ottumwa.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Lisa O'TOOLE and husband Thomas of Wheaton, Ill., Becky DOUGLASS of Pittsburg, Calif., and Jenny LONG and husband Dennis of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Janet BICKFORD of Selma.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Oscar PENCIL.
