STALDER, Lester Louis -- Lester Louis STALDER, 80, of Mount Pleasant, died saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at his residence.

A funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Pat Youngquist officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, with graveside military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.

Visitation is from noon to 9 p.m. today at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will be present from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Henry County Conservation Commission.

Mr. STALDER was born Feb. 1, 1927, in rural Coppock, the son of Joseph Frank and Mary Josephine KAUFFMAN STALDER. He married Patricia Louise RHEINSCHMIDT Oct. 12, 1957, at the Harlan House Hotel in Mount Pleasant. She died March 26, 1989, at the former Burlington Medical Center in Brighton.

Mr. STALDER attended school in Coppock and Pleasant Plain. Following his formal education, Mr. STALDER was inducted into the United States Army in 1945. He served at Camp Robinson in Little Rock, Ark., Jefferson Barracks, Mo., and in occupied Japan. He returned to his home area and accepted a position with Louden Mfg. in Fairfield. He then worked for Jefferson County and later for the state hospital in Mount Pleasant. For 29 years, he was employed as a machine operator for the Henry County Highway Department, where he was an operator for all the heavy equipment and helped build East Lake Park in Mount Pleasant. He retired in 1989.

Mr. STALDER enjoyed fishing, cutting and splitting firewood and attending his grandchildren's sporting events and the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion.

Survivors include one daughter, Lindi BENTZINGER of Birmingham; one son, Mark STALDER and wife Susie of rural Mount Pleasant; and four grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alfred and Joe "Buster" STALDER; three sisters, Olive EMRY, Edith LOWRY and Mary NEFF; one infant granddaughter; and one brother in infancy.
