Front Page, Column 4J. T. DAVIES DIED AT 1:30 TODAY IN CHICAGO HOSPITAL
The many friends' of J. T. DAVIES will be grieved to learn of his death which occurred at 1:30 o;clock this afternoon in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. DAVIES has been in very poor health for the past four months. About two weeks ago he was taken to Chicago for treatment.
The remains will arrive in the city tomorrow morning. No funeral arrangements have been made.

Funeral services for the late J. T. DAVIES will be held Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock in the Presbyterian church. The Masons will have charge of the services at the cemetery, the Knights Templar acting as escort.
The stores in the city will be closed from 4 to 5 in honor of Mr. DAVIES.

FUNERAL OF J. T. DAVIES WAS HELD HERE YESTERDAY
Stores of City Were Closed During Service for Well Known Fairfield CitizenJ. T. DAVIES, prominent Jefferson county business man, passed away Saturday morning at a hospital in Chicago, Ill. Mr. DAVIES has been seriously ill since Easter. He attended the services at the Presbyterian church Easter morning with the Knights Templar. That evening he was taken ill and was never able to be out again. When it was found that he was not improving he was taken to Chicago for treatment.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon at four o'clock and were in charge of Dr. W. E. Parsons. The body was escorted to the cemetery by the Knights Templar who took charge at the grave.
He is survived by his wife, two brothers, D. L. DAVIES of Brookfield, O., S. Arthur DAVIES of Dunedin, Fla., three sisters, Mrs. W. E. BOYCE, of Sharon Pa., Mrs. Elizabeth WAGNER of Dover Ohio, and Mrs. Mary A. JONES of Youngstown, O., and a brother-in-law, J. W. KAGARICE of Pittsburgh, Pa.
John DAVIES was born in Harrisburg, Pa., September 2, 1867. He moved to Sharon, Pa., when still a small child, where he grew to young manhood.
About twenty-five years ago he came west, locating in Mankato, Minn. where he was a grocery salesman.
From there he went to Sioux City Ia., where he was employed by the Standard Oil company. He was with this company as a district salesman of Southeastern Iowa for ten years.
In February, 1910, Mr. DAVIES came to Fairfield and engaged in the furniture and undertaking business with Chas. Trobridge. The following year he bought out Mr. Trobridge and continued the businss until February 1916 when he sold the furniture store to H. P. McLaughlin & Company.
He continued to run the undertaking parlors and also went into the oil business with D. T. Riley of Burlington. In 1917 he bought out Mr. Riley and organized the Davies Oil Co., establishing stations in Keota Richland and Hedrick.
Mr. DAVIES was honored in September, 1919 by being elected a director of the Independent Oil Men's association. He was one of eight men chosen from an organization of men from all over the country. Late this spring the Davies Funeral home was remodeled and fitted up with every modern convenience.
On September 16, 1911 Mr. DAVIES united in marriage with Emma A. CRAWFORD of Hedrick.
He was a member of the U. C. T. K of P. and Masonic lodges. He was also a member of the Presbyterian church.
Mr. DAVIES was one of the most enegergetic business men in this county. He was a leader in every community enterprise. His presence will be sadly missed in the music circles of the city in which he always took an active part. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances.

Notice is hereby given that an instrument, purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of John Thomas DAVIES, deceased, is now on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, and that June 24 A. D. 1921 at 2:00 o'clock p. m., it being in vacation of said court, has been set for proof and final hearing of same.
Witness my hand and the seal of said Court this 31st day of May, 1921.
