BORING, Orinda B. -- Orinda B. BORING, 103, of rural Keosauqua, died at 10:55 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
A service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials to Cantril Christian Church may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 20354 Highway 2, Keosauqua 52565.
Mrs. BORING was born Dec. 16, 1903, in Cherry Box, Mo., the daughter of James and Cordie ALEXANDER COCKRUM. She married Everett P. BORING Dec. 24, 1922, in Edina, Mo. He died Dec. 4, 1979.
The BORINGs farmed in Missouri until moving to Fort Madison in 1944. In Fort Madison, Mrs. BORING worked at Pen Sheaffer Company and King's Daughters Home. She also sold Blair products and flower arrangements. She and her husband moved to rural Keosauqua in 1975.
Mrs. BORING's hobbies included crocheting and quilting. She took up painting at age 90. Since 1922, Mrs. BORING had baked sourdough bread using the same starter yeast she had gotten from her mother-in-law and that is still in use by her daughter-in-law.
On her 90th birthday, Mrs. BORING took her first motorcycle ride -- wearing black leather clothes -- and on her 95th birthday, she went on her first hot air balloon ride.
Mrs. BORING attended Cantril Christian Church.
Survivors include one son, George BORING and wife Patricia of Keosauqua; one daughter, Roberta GINTZ HART and husband Scottie of Oklahoma City; one brother, Alvin HARRIS of Bandara, Texas; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Carl and Ernest BORING; one daughter, Leota SCHULTZ; one granddaughter; and three great-grandsons.
